About Alison Mason

I will work in any area but most of my commissions currently cover the areas of London and Hertforshire.

I trained as a garden designer at the well known Capel Manor in Hertforshire and there was able to bring together my love of horticulture, sculpture, portrait painting and drawing.

I design gardens of any size and style from small seaside gardens and modern London gardens to large rural gardens. The key to my designs is listening to what you want and creating something together of lasting beauty.

I enjoy maintaining contact with my clients for years after the initial garden design project, often providing on-going advice and sometimes working alongside them in their gardens. My website reflects this by showing pictures of the gardens post-build and when they are fully mature. You can see my own garden under Plants Woman’s garden.

My Design Philosophy

I have an extensive portfolio to share with clients and I like to create unfussy designs where the planting is an integral part of the design as opposed to an after-thought.

I don’t approach any project with a pre-conception about what the client should have. Instead I take a detailed brief from the client, which is agreed prior to the design stage, so that I have an understanding of their garden vision. I take great pleasure from working with people to create a garden that is both beautiful and individual to them and which will bring them pleasure over the years.

Unlike some designers, who have little practical horticultural experience, I am able to invite clients to my own garden (Plants woman’s garden featured on this web site) to inspire them and to give them confidence in my horticultural and design knowledge.
